Our first tree... and what's behind the mirror.

23 January 2008

From Nathan in Ohio comes our very first Project Green donation. In keeping with Lindsay's concept of celebrating a first... Nathan, go to this blog: December 28 and have a look at the kids holding the name tag that will be attached to their tree - and choose which kid will have the honor of being planted first!

Thank you.

Lindsay is still waiting for his fotos... I give up, the damn things will just NEVER be sent ho hum, but Friday I think I can rectify this... in a very special way! Check back on Saturday... if everything pans out, will be quite interesting...

Received this from Ben:

1. how long do you think you can keep up the personal development blog? (On a personal note i'd rather follow stories about the kids rather than think about my life!) but seriously, the blog is away from topic - the projects

2. I have heard many a religious person say things like.. put your trust in God and he will provide.... etc etc etc so is your ...'put your trust in the universe and it will provide' just another type of religious brainwashing?

Two good points. First point: Something that is VERY important to me personally is to help other people get motivated to try something different in their lives, whether to better their own, or to help some other struggling soul.

Through my Personal Development pages I hope to show how MY challenges were met, and how no matter how disastrous your life, you can - if you take the responsibility for it - radically change it in whatever direction you want. To my way of thinking, for my 'advice' to have any use at all, it needs to be supported by real world results from actually USING the advice. Ben, I am TRYING to do this.

The second point is more of the same: if I SAY I believe in 'thought' manifesting things in my life - then let's damn well see it happening! Otherwise, Daniel - drop it! Hence, welcome to my journey.

Finally, this is a non-denominational blog - and THAT is firmly brought home in this blog here: Our first live visitor... you MUST be kidding!

Now the title... the other side of the mirror.

Before I go on, read very carefully!! I like the people in this little community - a lot! And in the following anecdote I am NOT judging, criticising, demeaning.... I think anecdotes like this are vital to capture the struggle we face, and reflect the great progress we intend to make!

Yesterday I mentioned the canteen-come-shop that has appeared. The lady who kicked it off is called Alice, and she is the mother of Lucas and Flavio. Here she is, starting a little business - but can't add or subtract, since school was not a part of her childhood. So, whenever she makes a sale, she calls one of the boys to work out how much it is, and how much change she needs to give back.

Imagine the strength she needed to START - as I say again and again throughout my blogs - but she saw an opportunity, and trusted in it. You can be sure I will do everything I can to get her rolling along.

Received this mail from Greg in Sydney:

well you certainly dont waste any time lol

i went to the website and was amazed and excited

you have done it!!!!!

you got a community off their backsides and working together to improve their lives

those photos are fabulous

Thanks Greg and yes it IS fabulous... just wait until my next blog to see just HOW fabulous.

It is still very early days, and if I don't get onto increasing my traffic we can still slide down the drain... but I can smell those hits coming... can't you?
