Progress.

21 January 2008

First of all, I'm out of bed, and that's a relief for sure.

I haven't been up to the community for several weeks, so on the weekend I went up with Daniel.

Amazing stuff is happening. The fotos below show Daniel pitching in to get the first steps laid. It was an extraordinary thing, at least twenty people all pitched in. A dozen kids mixed cement and carried it in buckets to the workmen. It was a truly community effort.

Those fotos I will put up next week when we get to the second set of steps. For now I just show the start of the start...

Something else extraordinary. One family was inspired to open a little canteen-come-store right bang in the middle of the community. I just stood and looked, stunned. People are starting to feel this is all going to work.

And it's all happening without us - which is exactly how it should be. No 'dependence' here!

I love my son, think I already mentioned that a few times haha. As well, I have a special thank you to an American tourist - Roger. We ran out of funds for the cement, so Daniel spent a few days taking him around Rio, and that financed this week's building. Roger was very generous, didn't have to be stuck with Daniel for that long but hung in there to help. That's him below, sharing a well-earned beer with the brat.

Finally, I threw in a foto of Joao Gringo with some of the steel that is being shaped for the support columns. Next week I will put up the fotos of that progress, very heartening as well.

What can I say... Thank You to all those who are hanging in here with us on the journey...
