Well done is better than well said.

28 December 2007

Daniel snapped the foto below yesterday. It is significant on many levels.

For one thing, it is a START. In keeping with the philosophy of this blog, DON'T wait until you are ready... go ahead and start. We haven't yet received a donation for our first tree, and here we are with the first 10 name tags printed!

We didn't have the money for the tags, either... but then life banged our heads together as usual and left us little choice.

Little Lucas has this strange bruise that appears and disappears all over his body. If you look closely at his foto on Blog 02 December you will see it on his knee. Next week it will be somewhere else.

He is undergoing tests, very stressful at the moment. The tests are free, but the bus fare to the hospital is crippling. The family just doesn't have it.

So we contracted his Dad to be the one to make the tags. This lot provided his fares for this week, at least. And this is also in keeping with our policy of keeping the money where possible in the community - local dentist, local supermarket, local building supplier and so on.

The trees will come...

  • 6 easy steps to set up StumbleUpon.

    1. What is StumbleUpon?

StumbleUpon is a Google using humans instead of algorithms. It eliminates the tens of millions of pages of trash that a search engine throws up, as all the pages that appear in the StumbleUpon search have been voted there by members. You register your interests, and StumbleUpon delivers relevant pages. For this it uses an automatic scan of the page to place your page into one of 500 categories.

    2. Why should I join?

As I have already said in DIGG, del.icio.us, MySpace etc - it is all about traffic. That's what you're here for. Once you get signed up, it just all falls into place, much like the other sites.

    3. How does it work?

When you sign up, you download a small button that sits in your toolbar. It is unobtrusive, compact. Apart from the search capacity, there is a 'send this page to a friend' button. Which will go to his friend, and the friends of his friends, and his grandmother's first cousin's nephew's friends... Get it? It is ALL about traffic.

    4. How do I sign up?

Go here for a very simple form, and simple instructions: Join StumbleUpon. You will receive an email, which asks you to select the topics that most interest you, [which can be changed/updated/modified at any time] and guided through installing the the icon on your toolbar. It is all very fast and very simple.

    5. How can I maximise my StumbleUpon account to share my site with the world?

Visit the chatroom. Post in the forums. Be seen.

    6. Add a StumbleUpon link to your page.

Adding a StumbleUpon button to your page will increase the number of people who use it, thus increasing the chances of traffic to YOUR site. Download the button here: Button
