What do you want to do with the rest of your life?
09 December 2007There is only so much time in the day.
We can either enjoy our journey through life, or work at something we hate and try to squeeze everything else into the little free time that is left.
The good news: the solution is in your hands.
The bad news: the solution is in your hands.
No matter what your current situation, you can morph it into your dream existence. The journey will have its cost... most likely this will be Time. Well, that time will pass, whether you make a start or not. Time is a kinda indifferent entity.
If you are sharing our life through this blog, then you know I'm no self-satisfied millionaire pumping out "power of positive thinking" platitudes while sipping champers in my spa. My life was pretty empty, and a waste, until Daniel belted me over the head with Project Palhaco. As I bounce my ideas around here, and try them out in the real world, I hope I open a pathway to help you take responsibility for your own career, wealth, relationship or whatever. It's hard work, sure, to change your life, and it takes courage. But that clock is relentlesly ticking...
Every day of this blog is DAMN HARD WORK. Not the blog itself, that's a lot of fun. Just the day I have to live through to get to the writing, haha. Every night as I crawl - or fall - into bed [unless I stay the night in the community where there aren't any beds... yet!] it's with the smallest dent made in today, and that mountain - the future - still to be moved, tomorrow.
But tomorrow can wait. It will always be there... live NOW. Every day is a gift, every moment to be savored. I have met people who are so ill, in such pain - and they spend their days finding ways to bring a breath of happiness into the lives of those 'less fortunate'!
It took their illness to make me realise how lucky I am to be alive. And isn't it extraordinary to be alive now, and not 200 years ago, or 100 years in the future.
That statement sounds pretty stupid - until you think about it.

10 steps to live your life NOW.
These are simple reminders. Too often we get so 'busy' we forget to live our lives. Suddenly a year has gone by, two years, three. Nothing changed, a chunk of our life has just slipped away. Time lost can NEVER be regained. And time just... disappears - where were you New Year's Ever, 2000? Was it really eight years ago?! 1. Flush MSN et al down the toilet My God... that person REALLY exists - did you realise that? Sheesh. Trade a few virtual friends for real ones. Realistically, reduce your internet time. Unable to get outside for any reason? Invite someone over. Build a little network of people you can actually see smell touch... 2. Travel Way up here at the top of the list. Waiting until you retire? That's a good idea - let your life disappear now, and then later race around regretting all that you missed. Too expensive? Read 10 easy tips to Finance a World Trip. 3. Rediscover what's important Make a list of everything that's important to you. Add to it everything that you want to do in life. Now cut that list down to 4-5 things. Just the most important things in your life. THIS is what matters. Focus your life on these things. Make time for them. The rest is clutter eating away at your time. 4. Volunteer Help at homeless soup kitchens. Learn compassion, and discover the depth in giving. Join the Clown Club. It takes so little to help someone struggling - help, not create dependency - but you get LIFE in return. 5. Touch humanity Same as Point 4, but said differently. Get out of your perfect house and sterile neighborhood, and find those who live in worse conditions. Meet them, talk to them, understand them. Spend time with them. You will find your thinking shifts quietly in a new direction. 6. Turn off the TV So obvious. Record any show you really want to see, and watch it at your leisure. And watch DVDs. Avoid the trap of sinking into the couch in front of hours of mindless TV crap. 7. Find your passion Make your living doing the thing you love to do. Every waking breathing moment becomes a pleasure. Read 10 ways to find your passion. 8. Love Not necessarily fall in love, but if you need to, read 10 ways to find your soulmate. Go help out in the cancer ward of a children's hospital. Just love those kids, without wanting anything in return. Learn a few simple magic tricks and take them along with you. Google how to learn them. 9. Create a morning ritual This is YOUR time, every day. A very special time when you spend your time with... you. Wrap your hands around your coffee mug and stare dreamily off into nowhere, letting your thoughts float where they will. Reaffirm that today you will live your life to the fullest, even just for one day. [It will soon become a habit - imagine that!] 10. Be positive Catch yourself if you start thinking a negative thought. Complaining, regretting, worrying change NOTHING. Start thinking: I can do this. And you will. Take responsibility for your thoughts, keep them positive, and watch your life blossom.
